Police and Fire

The Palmyra Borough Police Department is located on the first floor of the Palmyra Municipal Center. The Chief of Police, Lieutenant, and seven full-time Patrol Officers provide 24-hour service and protection to the residents of the Borough of Palmyra. In addition to the mandatory and yearly in-service training, many of the officers have received specialized training in various subjects within the law enforcement field. Curfew - It is unlawful for any person under the age of eighteen (18) to be or remain in or upon the streets within the Borough of Palmyra between the hours of 11:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Some exceptions may apply. If you have specific questions with regard to exceptions, contact the Police Department at the above telephone number.

Burning - It is unlawful for any persons or entity to burn or permit to be burned any substances or maintain or permit to be maintained any fire out of doors on any tract of land within the Borough of Palmyra, except for the following:

  • Outdoor fires to cook food for human consumption, provided the fire is confined to a fire ring, fireplace, charcoal or gas grill or other similar fireproof container;


  • Fires used exclusively for agricultural purposes on properties containing a minimum of 10 acres, provided that any such burning occurs at a distance of not less than 100 lineal feet from the nearest point of any building and not less than 100 lineal feet from any boundary line of the tract of land on which said burning occurs; and


  • Bonfires, with conditions, upon the issuance of a permit from the Borough of Palmyra.
  • Pet Owner's Responsibilities - Pet owners are responsible for keeping their pets under control at all times, on or off private property. Pets running loose may be picked up by the Police Department.

  • Dogs must be licensed whether or not they are kept in the home. Licenses may be obtained by contacting the Lebanon County Treasurer's Office or at "The Cain Patch," a local business. Licensing assists the Police and the Humane Society with identification and protects your pets should they stray. Although licenses are not required for cats, cats should wear identification tags so that if they stray and are picked up and taken to the Humane Society, they may be returned to you.


  • Dogs and cats are not permitted to soil any property, other than that of the owner. Owners are responsible for immediately removing pet refuse from property other than their own. Irresponsible pet owners are subject to strict penalties for disregarding this law, especially in Borough Parks.


  • Weeds - No person owning or holding any real estate within the Borough shall permit noxious weeds or other undesirable vegetation, grasses, etc. to grow thereon to a height in excess of twelve (12) inches or to mature their seeds thereon, or fail to cut and destroy such weeds and other undesirable vegetation.

    Snow and Ice Removal - The owner, occupant, or tenant of any real estate fronting upon or alongside of any of the streets of the Borough of Palmyra is required to remove or cause to be removed from any paved or unpaved sidewalk or pedestrian walkway in front of or alongside of said real estate, snow, ice or sleet thereon fallen or formed within twelve (12) hours after the same shall have ceased to fall or to form.

    Trees - It is unlawful to plant any tree beyond the property line of the property owner, or to permit or allow any part of the trunk or roots of any tree to extend horizontally beyond the right-of-way line of any street.

  • It is the duty of every owner of property in the Borough of Palmyra to trim and keep trimmed the limbs, branches and/or foliage of all trees growing upon his property or along the street abutting upon his property, so that no portion of any such limbs, branches, or foliage shall be lower than 10' above the surface of the sidewalk or lower than 14' above the surface of the street, or obstruct illumination cast by street lights.
  • Fire Protection - Citizens Fire Company #1 provides primary fire protection to the residents and businesses of the Borough and North Londonderry Township. Currently the Company consists of 73 active members- 46 firefighters and 9 cadets, 15 fire police only, and 3 administrative. The firehouse is located on College Street, which is centrally located in the Borough.

    Emergency Preparedness - The Borough has adopted an emergency management plan, which will be used as a tool to guide emergency personnel in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. Should an emergency of such severity occur as to require evacuation, you will be alerted by emergency personnel and will be directed to designated evacuation routes. The primary emergency alert stations are WLBR 1270 AM and WQIC 100.1 FM. The Emergency Alert System will provide you with official information in cases of tornadoes, floods, nuclear plant accidents or other emergencies. Turn on your radio or television for official information and instructions.

    Skateboarding - It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in skateboarding or to ride upon or propel any skateboard on any street or alley within the Borough or on sidewalks on Main Street from Locust Street to Grant Street and on Railroad Street from the railroad tracks to Maple Street. This prohibition shall also apply to all municipal property and public parks.
